Cantonese Language Course
If you've always wanted to learn Cantonese, here's your chance! The Women's General Association of Macau is offering a Cantonese course in Taipa with all tuition fees going toward the victims of the earthquake in Sichuan, China. The course runs every Saturday from June 22 to July 13 and is offered at two different times: 11-12:15 p.m. and 12:30-1:45 p.m. The cost is MOP 750. Click here for registration information.

Classes Back On for the Afternoon
The DSEJ has announced that classes will resume for the afternoon. TIS teachers are in their classrooms ready to teach! After-school buses are also running as per normal.

Due to the heavy rain, DSEJ has suspended classes for Wednesday morning. As such students are excused from classes for the morning. However, teachers will be in attendance to provide classes for students who are able to arrive safely at school.

Arts & Community Day A Great Success!
There was a great turn-out for Arts & Community Day on Sat, May 18. Many TIS families came out to support the event which included art displays, performances and a huge selection of Community Day activities. A big thank-you to the Community Outreach Committee, Ms. Kelly, Mr. O'Flaherty, TISPA and the many student volunteers who helped to make the event such as success.

Jr. Basketball Teams Reign Supreme at SCISAC Tourny
Congratulations to the TIS junior boys and girls teams who claimed the 2013 SCISAC Basketball Championship in Hong Kong on May 9-11. Both teams defeated Ivy Collegiate Academy (ICA) in the finals. The girls finished with an undefeated 7-0 record, while the boys won their 3rd straight title since 2010! Sophie Wu and Marco Chak took home the “Play Hard, Play Fair, Everybody Win” award for their contributions at the tournament.

SCISAC Basketball Tournament
The junior girls and boys basketball teams will travel to Hong Kong for the SCISAC Junior Basketball Tournament on Friday, May 10 to Sunday, May 12, 2013. The tournament is hosted by Hong Kong Academy (HKA) and the games will be played at Independent Schools Foundation Academy (ISF).

Student Photography Exhibition Starts This Friday!
Preparations are well underway for the grand opening of the student photography exhibition, "Perspectives" this Friday, May 10 from 7-9 p.m. at Sands Cotai Central. Can't make it on Friday? Public viewing of the exhibition runs from Saturday, May 11th until Wednesday, May 15th.

TIS Partners With Four Seasons Hotel Macao
The International School of Macao is pleased to partner with the Four Seasons Hotel Macao to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research through the Run of Hope on Sunday, November 3, 2013. Together, our goal is to encourage more people to participate in this great family event which includes a 3 km family walk and 5 km run. Proceeds will be donated to the Evangelize Fellowship Orphanage and and the Kiang Wu Hospital cancer research program. Registration starts in September.
TIS Gives Back
TIS has some very talented staff and students! And you can watch them perform at the annual TIS Benefit Concert on Tues, April 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the MUST Auditorium. Student Council reps will be selling tickets starting today at lunch and after school. The cost is MOP 30 if you buy before the event and Mop 40 at the door. All proceeds will be donated to the Cradle of Hope.

It's less than a week until the Primary Musical! Sixty Gr. 1-6 students hav been working very hard to put the finishing touches on their production of Alice in Wonderland Jr. Don't miss the performances on Fri, April 26 at 7 p.m. and Sat, April 27 at 2 p.m. at the MUST Auditorium Tickets are MOP 60 and are available after school or at the door.

Parent Teacher Interviews for Gr. 7-12 students are scheduled for Tues, April 23 from 3:30-6 p.m. and Wed, April 24 from 5:30-8 p.m. The interviews are drop-in and will take place in the classrooms. Secondary Play
The TIS Secondary Players are bringing audiences another great production! Alberta Education On Campus This Week
The International School of Macao's
accrediting body, Alberta Education, will be on campus this week week
conducting their annual review.
As part of this assessment, Alberta Education representative Karen Slevinsky will be meeting with the TISPA committee on Mon, March 25 from 2-3 p.m. in the main office conference room. Ms. Slevinsky will be gathering feedback about TIS and distributing a survey.
All students, staff and parents are invited to share their opinions about TIS. On Wed, March 27 and Thurs, March 28, secondary students will be greeting parents in the morning and asking them to complete an online survey. Please take a few minutes to provide us with your valued opinions. You can also fill out the survey at: http://bit.ly/148Hbyj. The Chinese translation is available here: http://tis.edu.mo/pdfs/Parent_ Survey.docx. The document isn't interactive but can be filled out and brought into the office, or used to help complete the online survey.
Ms. Slevinsky will be our guest speaker at Parent Coffee Time next Thurs, March 28 from 8:30-9 a.m. in the Secondary Library. She will be sharing information about the Alberta curriculum and the accreditation process. Everyone is welcome to attend. Coffee, tea and pastries will be served.

Sports Day
Sports Day is coming up on Wednesday. March 20 for all elementary students. The Kindergarten grades will enjoy games on the soccer field and playground from 9-10 a.m. while Gr. 1-6 students will participate in a fun-filled afternoon of field and outdoor
activities from 12:30-2:30p.m. Students are asked to wear their PE
uniforms and bring their hats and water bottles. Families
are also invited to join in for some fun.

TISPA members have been busy assembling
all of the Easter baskets for the annual Easter raffle. Check them out in the main office. Tickets are
only 10 Mop each or 3 for 20 Mop and will be on sale before and after
school from March 18-27. The draw will take place on March 27. Show your support and purchase some tickets!

Cold & Flu Season is Here!
The cold and flu season is definitely upon us and we would like to remind parents and students to practice healthy hygiene. This includes washing your hands frequently, avoiding contact with your eyes, nose and mouth, and keeping disinfectant wipes and
gels handy. Eating healthy, drinking lots of water and getting enough
sleep are also helpful ways to fight the flu and cold. Students who are
unwell should be kept at home and seen by a doctor.

Student Led Conferences
Student-led conferences for Kindergarten to Grade 6 are coming up on March 14-15. The Gr. 1-6 conferences will take place on Thurs, March 14 from 3:30-8 p.m. and Fri, March 15 from 8 a.m.-12 noon. Kindergarten times are slightly different: Thurs, March 14 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and Fri, March 15 from 8:30-11 a.m. Parent sign up sheets will be sent home on Monday, so parents can choose
a half an hour block to attend. Confirmation of conference times
will be sent home with the report cards on March 8th. There is no school on Fri, March 15 for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students.

Friday, March 1 is Pink Day! Wear pink and
take a stand against bullying. The TISPA Easter basket fundraiser has
been paired up with Pink Day. Students are asked to bring in some
chocolates or 10 MOP.

YNOW Youth Leadership Summit
In three weeks, TIS students in grades 10-12 will be hosting the YNOW Youth Leadership Summit from March 13-15 at TIS. The conference will feature a wide range of speakers who will address relevant topics such as leadership, environmental concerns, child slavery, health issues and bullying. The keynote speaker will be Justin Bedard from Jump! Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on student leadership training, experiential education and global development. Secondary students from other schools in Hong Kong and Macao have also been invited to the summit and together with TIS Students, will participate in community outreach projects, ranging from cleaning up graffiti and giving out free hugs to visiting the water treatment plant and caring for the elderly. Students will also have “Team Time” througout the conference to work on presentations.

Open House
TIS will be holding an Open House this Saturday, February 23 for prospective students and their families. The elementary school tour will take place at 9 a.m. followed by the secondary school tour at 10 a.m. and the boarding house tour at 11 a.m. Applications will be accepted starting March 1st and admission tests will be held during the month of March. School Photos
Welcome back! Just a reminder that there will be school photos on Wed, Feb 20; Thurs, Feb 21 and Fri, Feb 22. Forms went home with students before Chinese New Year indicating which day their class' photos would be taken. Students should wear their winter dress uniform, even if it is their PE day on the day their photo is taken. Proofs and school photo order forms will be sent home in March.

Oxfam Lai See Donation Campaign
TIS is a participating school in the Oxfam Lai
See Donation Campaign. Oxfam is asking TIS students to make a donation
from the lai see money they receive over the Chinese New Year holiday to
help less fortunate people around the world. Lai see
envelopes can be picked up at the main office and donations can be
placed in the Oxfam box on the counter in the office. Students will have
until March 4th to bring in their donations. For more information, click here.
ELL Information Session
TIS will be holding an
information session for the parents of Gr. 7-11 English language learners on Thursday, February 21
in the Secondary Library. For your convenience, the session will be held
at two different times: 9-10 a.m. or 6-7 p.m. The workshop will focus
on expectations for Gr. 7-11 ELL students for reading levels and study habits as
well as expectations for parents in supporting these goals. Coffee and
tea will be provided.

ACAMIS Basketball Results
Congratulations to the TIS senior girl's and boy's basketball teams who won bronze medals at 2013 ACAMIS Gold Division High School Basketball Tournament on Jan 31-Feb 2 in the MUST Gymnasium. What a great display of teamwork and skill by both squads! A

Chinese Near Year Celebrations at TIS
TIS will be celebrating the Year of the Snake
with a Chinese New Year Carnival on Wed, Feb 6 in the MPR. Join us for
songs and performances as well as traditional Chinese activities, games
and food. Each division will start promptly at their scheduled time.

Tigers On The Prowl At ACAMIS BB Tournament
The 2013 ACAMIS Gold Division High School
Basketball Tournament is only three days away! TIS and five other schools from Hong Kong and China will be going head to head at
MUST Gymnasium from Jan 31-Feb 2.
On Thurs, Jan 31, the TIS girl's team
plays at 4 p.m. followed by the boy's team at 6 p.m. On Fri, Feb 1st,
the TIS boys play at 9 am, 11 am and 2 pm while the TIS girls play at 10
am, 1 pm and 3 pm.
On Sat, Feb 2, the TIS boys play at 8 a.m. Playoffs and finals are scheduled for the rest of the day on Saturday. Check facebook and the TIS website for daily results and tournament news.

Literature & Art At TIS
