Students, teachers, friends and parents who knew Ginny are invited to attend the special service tomorrow. A new ELL award will be created and named in her honour.

TISPA Charity Tree

We need your help! The TISPA Charity Tree in the TIS main lobby provides Christmas gifts for children in many Macau orphanages. There are still 85 children aged 13-17 who do not have presents, and we are asking the TIS community for assistance. Please pick up any of the tags hanging on the Charity Tree, donate a suitable gift and put it under the tree by Friday at 5 p.m. Please attach the tag to your gift. Your generosity will go a long way toward making a child's Christmas extra special.

TIS Launches Student Exchange Program

The International School of Macao and Alberta Education have developed a student exchange program between TIS students and students from Alberta. TIS is accredited with Alberta Education and shares the same curriculum with schools in Alberta. Exchange students will be able to earn full credits in their courses whilst on exchange in either Macao or Alberta. The exchange period will take place over one school year, divided equally between each country. Students will attend school together in the same location at the same time. “TIS is very excited about this new initiative as it will allow students to spend time learning about each other’s culture and country at the same time as earning full credits for their courses. This is a wonderful learning experience for teenage students to grow in independence and understanding of other cultures,” Mr. Howard Stribbell, Head of Schools states. TIS will officially launch this program with The Hon Jeff Johnson, Minister for Education, Alberta Government on Friday, 25 May, 2pm, at The International School of Macao. Guests will include Mr. Jean-Christian Brillant, Acting Consul General, Consulate of Canada; Mr. Gary Mar QC, Alberta Government Representative in Asia; Mr. Howard Stribbell, Head of Schools, TIS; and Mr. Real Hryhirchuk, Board of Directors, TIS. For more information about the program contact the school office.

At the tournament banquet the "Play hard, play fair, everybody wins!" awards were given to Clare Zarb and James Guffey who embodied all of the above. Volunteer Afternoon Tea

Thank you for volunteering at TIS! Your help has made this year a success! In appreciation of your efforts, we would like to invite you to afternoon tea. Students will be at your service to show gratitude for all the time you have spent to make their learning a more enjoyable experience. We hope that you will join us! Thursday, 3 May 1:30-3pm Primary Library, 3rd Floor Please let your child's classroom teacher know if you will be coming along.

Important Facility Update

Last Friday, the toilets in the Kindergarten hallway backed up. The plumbers were called and the situation was remedied before the end of the day. The plumbers worried that the pipes beyond the school might be restricted as well. On Monday, their fears were confirmed when the toilets backed up again. The toilets continue to work but if there is too much flow, the excess backs up. The plumbers will be checking and repairing the pipes this week. In order to not overwhelm the drainage at that end of the school, we have asked students and teachers to use the toilets at the other end of the school. To assist, we have opened up the washrooms in the storage areas (next to the libraries and science labs). We anticipate that the problem will be fixed by next Wednesday when school resumes after the long weekend.

TIS 2012-13 School Fee Schedule

Dear parents

The invoice for the 2012-13 school fees were sent home on Friday. Unfortunately the 2012-13 School Fee Schedule was not included. The School Fee Structure explains the tuition increase and the addition of the capital levy. The annual capital levy identifies a portion of the overall school fees for capital development and maintenance. Since the capital levy was added this year, we have kept the regular tuition increase as low as possible. The capital levy and the tuition increase together have been kept in line with inflation. The new fees were presented to TISPA earlier this year.

For additional information, please see the attached School Fee Schedule. If you have any questions please call or visit the school office and a member of the accounting staff would be happy to assist you.

I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this oversight may have caused. I will be back in Macau after April 7 and would be happy to answer any of your questions at that time.

All the best

Howard Stribbell

Parent Coffee Time

Thursday, 19 January, 8:30am, Secondary Library

Maria Ramadas, Be Cool Project Coordinator, is our special guest at the next TIS Parent Coffee Time, Thursday, 19 January, 8:30am, in the Secondary Library.

Maria will tell TIS parents about the Be Cool Project, a place for Macao's youth. The project is a centre dedicated to awareness, learning and discovery with drums, drama, cooking, yoga, writing, art lessons and many other activities. The centre is open daily and is an initiative of the ARTM. ARTM believes that with proper help and guidance youth will make positive choices away from drugs and risky behviours. The Be Cool Project believes that it is extremely important to talk and share problems and for that there is counselling for young people, parents and community members through the facility.

This is an important presentation for all parents, particularly parents of teenage children.
